Vice President, Data Engineering and Architecture
The Vice President of Data Engineering & Architecture oversees the team who provides and promotes access to information in a seamless and timely manner by designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining reporting data systems. This role oversees the various data engineering-related teams within NU including data services, data management, data warehousing and data science. This position is responsible for developing and implementing a data and analytics strategy for National University (NU) and partnering with analytics and insights teams. In addition, the role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and relevance of all data and analytics.
Essential Functions
- Oversees National University’s Business Intelligence roadmap and goals, including but not limited to implementation and maintenance of data management, data warehousing strategy, coordinating with leaders to ensure data integrity and data utilization, resource allocation, development and implementation of departmental vision and strategy, and delivering on roadmap goals.
- Partners with leadership to prioritize areas of opportunity to drive growth and provide data insights on the impact of strategic initiatives on the key metrics.
- Leads complex analytical initiatives, developing tracking, combining data from multiple sources to extract meaning, reconcile assumptions, and identify logical path for action.
- Democratize data by building and socializing decision tools (dashboards, reports); build key data sets/pipelines to empower operational and exploratory analysis.
- Ensures data is reliable, consistent, accessible, secure, and timely to support our mission and operating cadence.
- Assists in design, research, and develop new statistical tools/programs/products to meet business needs.
- Delivers innovative data-related solutions.
- Researches and identifies best practices for business data reporting and business intelligence via published literature, formalized training and professional development efforts, and industry-specific conferences.
- Identifies staffing and training needs, evaluates staff member performance and coaches the team.
- Administers department’s documentation of processes, policies, procedures, communication plans, project plans, and other documentation necessary for the department’s stability and accountability.
- Provides pivotal support to the NU internal business partners and external clients by ensuring requests for data are fulfilled in a timely manner and by providing key insights through the use of data and analytics.
- Achieves understanding of client's business problem and identifies appropriate analytic roadmaps (methods and approaches) which meet their analytic needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has supervisory responsibility for the Business Data Analysis team.
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline is required, Master’s degree preferred.
- Fifteen (15) years’ experience in analytics, applied data science, and reporting spanning some or all of: analytics, statistics, experimentation, modeling, optimization techniques, data engineering & architecture, and behavioral analytics.
- Ten (10) years’ experience in Business Intelligence Dashboards and actionable analytics design.
- Proficiency with reporting and analysis tools (e.g., MS Excel, Birst, Tableau, Power-BI, etc.) required.
- Experience in SalesForce highly desired.
- Experience with the Azure technology stack preferred.
- Expertise in query design, generation, and reporting; SQL and SSRS preferred.
- Experience in project management preferred.
- Experience in higher education preferred.
- Experience working in a technology-driven enterprise preferred.

- Skilled at operating in a complex, cross-functional organization or company where your teams need to collaborate and integrate with other teams across many disciplines.
- Ability to work closely with IT and BI warehouse architect to develop database structure.

- Ability to work cross-functionally with all departments and leadership.
- Attention to detail, highly organized, and ability to execute multiple initiatives within budgeted timeframes.

- Manages multiple resources and projects concurrently to ensure successful completion of analytic projects.
- Creates compelling presentations to tell the analytic story, demonstrating value by providing actionable insights with recommendations.

Candidate receiving offers will be offered a salary/pay rate commensurate with experience that vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies. Absent exceptional circumstances, candidates will be offered a salary within this range for this position. The minimum salary will be offered based on the minimum exemption threshold based on state of residency. Compensation Range:
